In the past two weeks in West Bengal, approximately 18 people in the West Burdwan district contracted dengue, with 12 cases in the Asansol Municipal Corporation area and three in the Durgapur Municipal Corporation area. Cases of dengue are on the rise in Kolkata too. About 3-5 cases per week were observed at the Charnock Hospital.
Bhardwaj has directed the concerned department and officials to intensify fogging and cleaning campaigns in dengue prone areas.
The heavy rainfall and flooding in the city have provided conducive conditions for mosquito breeding, exacerbating the situation.
The civic authorities have set up 930 vector control teams to cover 144 wards.
The theme of this week's campaign against Dengue by the Delhi Government is ‘Families of Delhi’ and 'Every Family Will Fight The Battle Against Dengue’ is the tagline.
However, no death due to dengue has been reported yet in the state capital. SP leader and ex-minister K.P. Yadav who got infected in Jaunpur, died due to dengue shock syndrome while under treatment on September 1.
"Every year we witness an increase in the cases of viral fever and dengue. This year too, we have witnessed a similar surge. In comparison to last week when we had about 2,500 in all the departments combined, this week's figure has spiked to 3,000."
According to the municipal report, Delhi saw 171 cases in 2016, 251 in 2017, 64 in 2018, 47 in 2019 and 35 in 2020.
The density of mosquito is calculated by the average number of mosquito bites on 10 persons per hour.
