On 26 November, India celebrated Constitution Day, a day to commemorate the adoption of its foundational legal document in 1949.
Eastern Railway observed Constitution Day throughout its jurisdiction today. Officers and staff at Eastern Railway headquarters, led by Sheelendra Pratap Singh, Additional General Manager, Eastern Railway read the Preamble to the Constitution on this occasion.
He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by initiating the observance of Constitution Day, has helped enhance public awareness and appreciation of democratic values.
The event was presided over by Smita Vats Sharma, Director General, PIB, along with Dr. Pragya Paliwal Gaur, Vice Chancellor, Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC).
President Droupadi Murmu will lead India’s Constitution Day ceremony at Samvidhan Sadan, releasing the digital statute in nine Indian languages. The day will see nationwide programmes, Preamble readings and public participation from Panchayat to Parliament.
Several activities, including conferences, seminars, debates, short films, exhibitions, cultural programmes, and poster, painting and rangoli competitions will also be held nationwide.
"The initiative is being undertaken in partnership with State and UT Departments of Panchayati Raj, SIRD and PRs, PESA Mobilisers, Panchayati Raj Associates, SoEPR at NIRD and PR and other associated networks," the Ministry said on Monday.

Constitution Day, celebrated on November 26, holds immense significance in India and beyond not only because it marks the historical event of the adoption of the country’s Constitution but also because the text of the “highest law of the land” resonates with our quotidian aspiration and further encourages continuous negotiation in the public sphere for reshaping India’s governance framework.
