Gautam Gambhir’s name has been a constant in all conversations surrounding the next coach of the Indian men’s national cricket team.
The 39-year-old Karthik retired from all forms of representative cricket at the end of the 2024 IPL season. The wicketkeeper-batter was a part of the RCB franchise since the IPL 2022 mega auction and stayed with them for three seasons. He also had a stint with them in 2015 for one season.
The 49-year-old Englishman’s exit followed days after Mahela Jayawardene quit as consultant coach after the team’s disappointing ICC men’s T20 World Cup campaign in which they failed to qualify for the Super 8s.
With Rahul Dravid set to vacate the position post the ICC men's T20 World Cup 2024, the BCCI had already invited new applicants for the role. The deadline to apply for the role was May 27 but it is still not clear if Gambhir has submitted his application.
