West Bengal shares an international border of approximately 2,216 kilometres with Bangladesh, the longest border shared by any Indian state.
According to local sources, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel allegedly attempted to push back a group of individuals trying to infiltrate into the country through the Sukhdevpur border.

The BSF today apprehended one Md Shakeel, resident of Panchagarh district in Bangladesh and seized four cattle from him.
The cabinet committee approved his appointment on the coveted post and he will start serving his new role from August 31 till December 31, 2022.
BSF officers said troops of battalions under the frontier had carried out special antismuggling drive in their respective border areas and seized 11 cattle, 320 bottles of the MKDyl Cough Syrup and other items from different border areas in the recent past.
On July 30 at about 8.48 p.m., BSF troops deployed in Thehkelan (Amarkot) in Ferozepur observed suspicious movement of intruders sneaking inside Indian territory. BSF on Saturday shot dead two intruders from Pakistan.
The Home Minister also delivered the Rustamji Memorial Lecture.
The distance of the spot is approximately 40 metre from the International Border, said the BSF.
