In a major development, Olympian wrestler Bajrang Punia was appointed the Working Chairman of the All India Kisan Congress on Friday.
The latest development came hours after they met Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi a few days ago.
The meeting has intensified rumours that the Congress may field Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia in the Haryana Assembly elections, scheduled to be held on 5 October.
The WFI was suspended immediately after Sanjay, a close aide of former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, won the elections.
On Wednesday, Rahul shared pictures from his visit to the Virendra Akhara, with a caption hinting at the ongoing row over the election and the subsequent suspension of the WFI by the sports ministry.
The Congress leader said that wrestlers should be allowed to serve the country with full honour.
The IOC panel has been asked to manage daily affairs of the Wrestling Federation of India, including selection of athletes.
