A total of 1,121 Agniveers completed their training at the Punjab Regimental Centre (PRC), Ramgarh Cantonment, and formally joined the Indian Army following a ceremonial Passing Out Parade on Saturday.

The first batch of Agniveers, which has been recruited from the Jammu, Udhampur, Doda, Reasi, Ramban, Kathua, Rajouri, Samba, Poonch and Kishtwar districts, reported recently for training at Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental Centre.
The defence secretary said the skills gained by the Agniveers during their engagement with the armed forces would help build a highly competent and professional workforce that would be readily available for fruitful and productive engagement by the industry.
This scheme includes, inter alia, personal accidental insurance, air-accidental insurance covering all Agniveers along with Zero balance salary account with Sweep facility, Internet banking and Alerts etc.
Ally JD-U, and the Opposition parties questioned the rationale behind seeking caste and religion certificates from candidates willing to join the military short service scheme, Agnipath.
"The Congress is always on the side of defence reform in the country but the NDA government is mowing the dreams of patriots who want to serve the country," he added.
