On the directives of the West Bengal government, two teams from Purulia have rushed to Chakradharpur in neighbouring Jharkhand to look after the passengers of the state at wee hours today.
The Election Commission of India has directed the state Chief Secretary, B.P.Gopalika to remove the present Police superintendent of Purulia, Abhijit Banerjee by 10 AM tomorrow and submit names of three IPS officers to the ECI.
Banerjee, who is also the chairperson of the Global Advisory Board on the Covid-19 pandemic set up by the West Bengal government, said while speaking on the continuous increase in cess for the last seven years, "The government has a fiscal problem. This is a government that has more faith in balancing the budget than realising the actual problem. I have been in favour of more free-spending policies. This (increase of cess) is because of that."

“If many people show signs of cough and cold then they a random testing should be done. We have to be more careful and alert. But there is nothing to fear or panic,” Dr Banerjee said.
For the first time in the 163-year history of the university the convocation was held without the chancellor.
Abhijit Banerjee, during an address at the Kolkata Literary Meet, also said the priority of the government should be on refinancing the banking sector, which is in 'doldrums'.

Banerjee also pitched strongly for leaving syllabus setting to the individual institutions, rather than making it centralised where boards set the syllabi.
