Responding to Leader of Opposition Atishi's letter regarding the suspension of AAP MLAs and their subsequent denial of entry into the Delhi Assembly complex, Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday expressed surprise that, despite being in government for 12 years, the opposition appeared unfamiliar with the rules governing legislative proceedings.
Former Delhi chief minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Assembly Atishi wrote to Speaker Vijender Gupta on Friday that the suspension of AAP MLAs was an ‘injustice to the Opposition’ and a blow to democratic values.
The BJP leader has demanded that Singh either withdraw his allegations and apologize to the BJP, or should be prepared to face legal action.
Delhi's Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed that there is a rise in extortion cases and targeted shootings across the capital.
"They (the BJP) couldn't topple the Delhi government, nor could they break our MLAs," he said.
The Centre on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that protests and theatrics can never take place when a constitution bench is in midst of examining a constitutional question.
According to LG office source, the action will be taken against AAP leaders - Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, Durgesh Pathak and Jasmine Shah among others for defamatory and false allegations of corruption by them, attributed to his tenure as KVIC Chairman.
The party has been accusing the BJP of luring its leaders in a bid to topple the AAP government in Delhi.
Saurav Bharadwaj, MLA from Greater Kailash and senior spokesperson of the party said, "The Centre's deliberate attempts to snatch power of elected Delhi Government indicates the nervousness of the BJP. Through the LG's office, BJP wants to rule in Delhi indirectly."
Reacting to the decision of Bholath legislator Khaira and two other AAP MLAs to throw in their lot with the Congress party today, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal said “the cat is out of the bag”.
