Besides the BJP, Congress' former assembly Speaker Dr C P Joshi, sitting MLA Harish Meena, and Vaibhav Gehlot, son of former Congress Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, from Jalore seat are also vying in the poll battle.
According to a joint report released here on Tuesday by Uttar Pradesh Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), they analyzed affidavits of all 91 candidates contesting from eight constituencies in the second phase of the polls in the northern state.
A total of 226 candidates had filed their nominations for eight seats but during scrutiny, papers of 175 candidates were rejected, mostly on technical grounds, said EC sources here on Friday.
Scrutiny of the nomination papers will take place Friday. The final list of candidates will be compiled after the deadline for withdrawal of nomination papers ends on April 8.
Citing the Election Commission data, officials said 58.60 per cent turnout was witnessed across the state in the election held for 93 Assembly seats in 14 districts of Gujarat.
There are a total 260 candidates in fray including 29 women nominees and 73 independents. Their fate will be decided by 48,25,038 voters including 23,93,437 women and 90 third gender.
