Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal has been summoned by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after he made sensational fixing claims during a television interview. He said he was offered money for leaving ‘two balls alone’ during a match between India and Pakistan in the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup 2015 .

PCB has asked Akmal to explain his comments. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has also said it wishes to speak with Akmal urgently.

“The ICC is aware of a recent interview given by Umar Akmal. Whilst we note that there is no suggestion that any ‘fix’ actually took place, the ICC is reliant on players to report any corrupt approaches in a timely manner. This is critical to our efforts to gather information on potential ‘fixers’ and to disrupt and prevent their efforts to corrupt the game. As such we are taking Akmal’s comments very seriously,” the ICC said in an official statement.

“We have launched an investigation and wish to speak to Mr Akmal as a matter of urgency. Our Anti-Corruption Unit is committed to working to uphold integrity in cricket and would urge anyone with any information to contact us via contactacu@icc-cricket.com,” the statement read.

Earlier on Sunday, Akmal claimed that he had received an offer to spot-fix during the India vs Pakistan game in the ICC World Cup 2015.

Speaking to Samaa TV, Akmal said, “I had got an offer during the World Cup to leave alone two balls and they were willing to pay me $200,000 for that. It was our first match against India in the 2015 World Cup.”

In his shocking claims, Akmal also said it was nothing new as he had received similar offers before. “Similar offers have been made in the past as well. In the matches with India I’ve been told to make some excuse and opt out of the game for which I’d be paid but I have told those people that I am committed to Pakistan and to not approach me ever with such offers,” he said.
