After scoring dozens of goals for fun at Everton during his four seasons with the club, Manchester United-bound Romelu Lukaku has penned a sweet farewell to the Toffees.

Lukaku first came to the Merseyside club on a season-long loan from Chelsea in 2013, impressing then-manager Roberto Martinez enough to shell out a club record £28 million to make his services permanent the following year.

While initially the goals were a little hard to come by, once he got going, the burly Belgian never looked back.

Lukaku wreaked havoc in the Premier League in the past two seasons to become one of the best strikers in England and United are said to have paid Everton a staggering fee of £75 million to acquire him.

The 24-year-old striker uploaded a photo gallery with the Everton theme song in the background on his Instagram profile with the caption: “I want to say a big thank you to all the people involved at @everton. I want to thank the fans for your support throughout the 4 years we've spend together. You guys helped me through all my games and I can proudly say it was an honour to play in front of you. To the staff at the the stadium and training ground thank you for making me feel home from the first day i walked in. To my teammates it was great to play with you guys. To technical staff thank you for helping me become a better player. Working with you guys has been a pleasure and i'll take ur advice throughout the rest of my career. Thank you Everton football club.”

United are said to officially announce Lukaku on Monday and the striker will then immediately jet out to join Jose Mourinho’s squad on their tour of the USA.
