Former Australian great Ricky Ponting and batsman Travis Head criticised the Australian crowd’s behavior for booing Indian skipper Virat Kohli on the third day of the ongoing Test match when the right-hander walked on to bat at the Adelaide Oval.

Virat Kohli was booed by a small section of the Australian crowd on Day One too during India’s first innings.

Travis Head was not happy with the behaviour of the crowd. Speaking after the end of the third day’s game, Head said, “He’s a pretty good player and probably doesn’t deserve to be booed but that’s how it is. It’s probably not needed but that’s the crowd.”

When star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was asked the same question, he said the visiting team would like to ignore such incidents.

“I don’t think all these things are important to us because for us, what happens in that circle is important. Everything else, we can’t control and it is not in our hands. If they want to, they can do whatever they want. As long as we are doing well, we are happy,” Bumrah said.

Ricky Ponting, who was also booed by the fans on a number of occasions, was also not impressed by the Australian crowd’s behaviour.

“I don’t like seeing it at all,” Ponting told cricket.com.au. “It didn’t worry me as a player when it happened in England a couple times. You’ve almost got to accept it as an acknowledgment for what you’ve done in the game. But I’d rather not see that happen at all.”

Ponting added, “It’ll be water off a duck’s back (for Kohli), I’m sure. He’s probably had worse things happen to him on a cricket field, I would have thought, than getting booed by a couple of spectators as he walks on.”

However, this is not the first time when Virat Kohli has been booed by the crowd. Earlier this year, Virat Kohli was booed by English fans during the Edgbaston Test.

Virat Kohli was also booed by Australian fans during India’s 2011/12 Down Under tour. During an Indian Premier League match between Challengers Bangalore and the Mumbai Indians, Virat Kohli was booed by an all-Indian crowd at the Wankhede Stadium.
