La Liga India country manager José Cachaza said the English Premier League (EPL) has set an example for the Spanish league with the huge fan base that has been successfully created in the country.

“We really admire what the English Premier League (EPL) has achieved. They have set a great example for us, in India but also elsewhere,” Cachaza told IANS.

“At the same time, the EPL has helped create a great fan base for football in India. We believe there are many people here who would fall in love with LaLiga once they discover it.

“Our job is to facilitate that discovery and to introduce the excitement, the passion, the drama, the great players, the great clubs and much more that LaLiga brings to the Indian public,” Cachaza added.

Cachaza claimed the La Liga is the best football league in the world and Spanish giants FC Barcelona, Real Madrid along with top footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have helped proved that with their incredible achievements over the years.

“Not only do we believe we have the best football competition, that’s an opinion shared by independent observers as well. We have the best teams in the world and the best players in the world. If we look at the data of the European competitions, the Spanish teams have dominated both the Champions League and the Europa League for several years.

“Real Madrid and FC Barcelona have won the last four editions of the Champions League and Atlético de Madrid have played two of those four finals,” Cachaza said.

“In addition, LaLiga teams have won five of the last eight editions of the Europe League. Also, if we focus on individual players, the last nine gold balls were won by players in LaLiga, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi,” he added.

Cachaza revealed former Italian full-back and Delhi Dynamos coach Gianluca Zambrotta will visit New Delhi on December 23 for the Real Madrid, Barcelona ElClasico clash in the La Liga.

“We can announce that Gianlucca Zambrotta, FC Barcelona and also former Delhi Dynamos coach, will will attend El Clasico public viewing at NSIC grounds (Ohkla) in Delhi,” Cachaza said.

“We regularly bring La Liga legends to India,” he added.
