Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane has been named the skipper of Indian cricket team in the absence of Virat Kohli from the historic Afghanistan Test to be held on 14-18 June in Bengaluru.

Karun Nair, the 26-year-old right-handed batsman who is also a part-time spinner, has been named as Virat Kohli’s replacement.

Virat had earlier opted to skip the Test – which will mark the debut of Afghanistan in Test matches – in favour of Surrey in the English County Championship. Virat will, however, be back for the two T20Is match series against Ireland.
