Sri Lanka ace pacer Lasith Malinga called time on his one-day international (ODI) career after Sri Lanka’s first match of the 3 match ODI series against Bangladesh in Colombo.
On Friday, Sri Lanka won the match by 91 runs. Meanwhile, the bowling spearhead Malinga didn’t fail to impress in his last ODI spell and ended with 3 for 38 in 9.4 overs, including a wicket of the last ball of his ODI career. He surpassed Anil Kumble’s tally of wickets (337) in the 50-over format.
Admiring the yorker specialist, Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who got enough bowling tips from the veteran bowler while sharing Mumbai Indians’ (MI) dressing room with him, said: Classic Mali spel thank you for everything you’ve done for cricket. Always admired you and will always continue to do so. (sic)”

India ODI vice-captain and MI skipper Rohit Sharma was all praise for his MI teammate. Rohit took to Twitter to say: If I had to pick one match winner among many others for @mipaltan in the last decade, this man will be on the top for sure. Malinga, with a total of 338 wickets from 226 matches, finished as the 9th highest wicket-taker in ODIs. He is Sri Lanka’s third highest wicket-taker in the format after Muttiah Muralitharan (523) and Chaminda Vaas (399).
Notably, Malinga is the only bowler to have taken three ODI hat-tricks — against South Africa in 2007 World Cup, against Kenya in 2011 World Cup and against Australia in 2011.
