No new case of polio has been reported in Himachal Pradesh since 2009, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said here on Sunday.

The last polio case was detected in Nalagarh block in Solan district in 2009 and the state has remained polio-free since then, he said while launching the first phase of the Pulse Polio Immunization Programme here.

The chief minister said 683,356 children less than five years of age would be administered polio drops for which 5,868 booths have been set up.

Vaccination teams would visit 13,95,185 households under this programme, he added.
