Avni Singh was the wife of Lokendra Singh, the BJP MLA whose death in a car accident necessitated the bypoll.

The party gave ticket to his widow in the by-election eyeing for the sympathy votes. But it is evident after the result that the sympathy could not work in favour of the party candidate and the votes of the minorities were galvanised for Naemul Hasan, the alliance candidate.

Naresh Uttam Patel, the state president of Samajwadi Party has expressed happiness over the result in Noorpur and trends coming from Kairana, which, too, favour the alliance. He asserted that it is an indication for the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
