Expressing concern over land subsidence in Joshimath, Uttarakhand,  Samajwadi Party president and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav said what is happening in Joshimath proves something has been ignored.

“If there is a crack in the mountains and the land is caving in, then we have to understand that somewhere humans have neglected some things. If we do not accept the ideas of science and scientists, then similar incidents will happen,” he said.

Talking to reporters in Kannauj on Tuesday, Yadav said, “We hope that the government will take the help of experts and environmentalists and provide all possible help to the people who have suffered losses there”.

The former CM also lambasted the government over the proposal to hike power tariff in the state.

“Now, the people of the state will have to face the brunt of higher power tariff while the BJP government is spending crore of rupees on leisure on the name of inviting investments in UP,” he alleged.

Yadav said that injustice and atrocities are at its peak under the BJP government. The government is responsible for the highest number of deaths in police custody in UP.
