Inaugurating Mohanpura Irrigation project in Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgadh district on Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the opportunity to score a political point months ahead of the assembly elections in the state.

After the inauguration of the Rs 4,000 crore irrigation project, PM Modi said that the huge turnout is proof of the faith the people have in the policies of the government.

“You (the people) are testimony to the fact that those who are spreading rumours and creating confusion in the country are cut off from ground realities,” said Modi in his address to supporters.

“It has been this country’s misfortune that the contribution of some of the country’s greatest sons was belittled and forgotten for the sake of glorification of a single family,” said Modi hitting out at the Gandhi family.

“There was a time when MP was among the BIMARU states. But the ruling Congress in the state remained unaffected. They were not concerned about the future of the state,” said the PM in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Governor Anandiben Patel.

“BJP has done the work of pulling Madhya Pradesh out of BIMARU status and turning it into a major contributor to the nation’s progress,” added the PM.

Madhya Pradesh will head to polls later this year.

Praising the BJP government in the state, the PM said that the launch of the irrigation project and the start of three water supply schemes in Mohanpura adds to the ‘vikas’ (development) story scripted by Chief Minister Chouhan.

The Mohanpura project, which includes a dam and a canal system, will benefit 727 villages in Madhya Pradesh.

The Prime Minister will also attend the Madhya Pradesh Shehari Vikas Mahotsav in Indore and remotely inaugurate various urban development projects worth over Rs 4000 crore, at various locations across the state. These include houses under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana, urban drinking water supply schemes, urban solid waste management, urban sanitation, urban transportation and urban landscape projects.

PM Modi will also felicitate the winners of cleanliness survey – Swachh Survekshan 2018. He will give away awards to the representatives of Indore, Bhopal and Chandigarh, the cities that secured top three positions in the survey, the official said.

The PM will also inaugurate the state government’s urban transport scheme named ‘Sutra Seva’ at Indore’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

This economical bus service — ‘Sutra Seva: MP Ki Apni Bus’ — is being introduced in 20 selected cities of the state.

During the programme, PM Narendra Modi will also inaugurate drinking water schemes for 14 urban areas. Parks developed under the AMRUT Yojana in 10 urban areas, including Khandwa, Burhanpur, Khargone, Sehore, Hoshangabad, Bhopal, Pithampur, Guna, Gwalior and Rewa, will also be dedicated to the people during the programme.
