Northeast can be the new engine of India’s growth: PM Modi in Manipur

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said northeast can be the “new engine of India’s growth” as he stressed that the country’s growth story shall never be complete until the eastern part progresses.

Speaking in Luwangshangbam, Manipur, the prime minister said: “I have always maintained that India’s growth story shall never be complete until the eastern part of our country progresses at par with the western part.”

“The North-East can be the New Engine of India’s growth,” he said after laying the foundation stones for the Luwangshangbam multi-sports complex, National Sports University and freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu Park at Mantripukhri.

Modi further said that the Centre has sanctioned 10 India Reserve Battalions for northeastern states which includes two battalions for Manipur.

“These two battalions will directly provide job opportunities to about 2,000 youth in the state,” he said.

Modi also inaugurated 1000 Anganwadi centres that will work as a medium for improving the health of thousands of mothers and their babies in the state.

Earlier in the day, Modi called upon the country’s scientific community to “extend its research from the labs to the land” while addressing the 105th edition of Indian Science Congress in Imphal, Manipur.

The Science Congress, taking place in the capital of Manipur saw congregation of about 5000 delegations including three Noble laureates, scientists, scholars and researchers from all across the country.
