No democracy can survive without equality before law: V-P Dhankar

Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Monday that no democracy can survive unless there is equality before law.

Addressing the 18th Convocation of the Mizoram University, Jagdeep Dhankar emphasised that equality before law is now a palpable reality with even those who once deemed themselves above the law now are subject to its jurisdiction.

The vice-president urged youth to break away from conventional paths, particularly the narrow focus on competitive examinations and the single-minded pursuit of government jobs. Instead, he encouraged them to embrace innovation, implement their ideas fearlessly, and view failure as a stepping stone towards success.

Describing the environment in the country as conducive, he noted that today’s youth has unprecedented opportunities to pursue his dreams and fully utilise their potential. He also emphasised transparency in recruitment processes and the elimination of power brokers from corridors of power.

In terms of investment climate, the vice-president emphasised India’s resilience amidst global challenges, portraying it as a beacon of investment and opportunity. He traced the nation’s development trajectory, from its transformation into a major economic player to its status as the third-largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity.

Commending the transformative impact of the Act East policy on the Northeast region, Dhankar lauded the significant investments in infrastructure and connectivity, which have contributed to socio-economic development.

Moreover, he urged the youth to capitalize on cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence, machine learning, and quantum computing, encouraging them to venture into startups and entrepreneurship.

Recognising the youth as pivotal stakeholders in governance, the Vice-President called upon them to actively engage in shaping the future of the nation, particularly in the journey towards Viksit Bharat@2047. He also emphasised the importance of respecting elders, nurturing friendships, and maintaining strong familial bonds.

The event was attended by dignitaries including Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Governor of Mizoram, Shri PU Lalduhoma, Chief Minister of Mizoram, and other esteemed guests, faculty members, and students.
