Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has constituted a three-member fact-finding committee to go into the reasons for the party’s humiliating defeat in the recent Assembly elections in Gujarat.

The committee will submit its report to the party chief within two weeks. It will also suggest measures to revive the party in the state.

The party has named Nitin Raut as the chairman of the committee while Shakeel Ahmed Khan and Saptgiri Sankar Ulaka will be its members.

The Congress, which was eyeing to stage a comeback in the state, was routed and managed to win just 17 seats, with the ruling BJP winning 156 seats.

The Congress had 77 seats in the 2017 assembly polls. However, before the 2022 assembly polls, several of the party’s MLAs had left the party, which brought its number down to 59 MLAs ahead of the Assembly polls.
