Railways operating record-breaking 9,111 trips during summer season of 2024
This marks a substantial rise compared to the summer of 2023, where a total of 6,369 trips were offered.
In a shocking video which surfaced on social media, a vending contractor can be seen coming out of a train toilet with tea and coffee cans, indicating that water was being mixed in the cans inside the toilet.
The incident, reportedly, had occurred in December last year, on board the Hyderabad Charminar Express at Secunderabad railway station, a Railways communication said.

The Indian Railways in a press statement said, “The incident has occurred in Train No. 12759 Chennai Central – Hyderabad Charminar Express at Secunderabad Railway Station in the month of December 2017. An Inquiry has been held to identify the wrong doers and initiate appropriate action.”
The vending contractor has been slapped with a fine of Rs. 1 lakh by the Railways.
“A penalty of Rs. 1 lakh has been levied on the licensee, through IRCTC, the contracting agency,” added the Railways.
A show cause note has also been issued to P Siva Prasad, Licensee, Train Side Vending as to why his contract for train vending should not be terminated.
The accused has to report an explanation within 15 days from the issue of Show Cause Notice.
It is believed that two other persons seen in the video are unauthorised hawkers. Measures are being taken up to ensure that incidents like these do not take place again, the statesment said.
Meanwhile, one of the vendors, employed by contractor P Sivaprasad, has reportedly revealed that they didn’t use the water from toilet and they were only transferring the leftover beverage in the toilet to sell it in their respective platform stalls.
The toilet was chosen to carry out their work to avoid public gaze.
