The Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) filled a fresh petition in the Supreme Court on Friday, challenging the appointment of BJP MLA Bopaiah as pro tem Speaker for Karnataka Assembly floor test. The court’s registrar is expected to take a decision late night on listing the petition.
The Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Valla had sworn-in KG Bopaiah as the pro tem speaker, going against the convention of the most senior MLA being appointed to the post. He will oversee the Karnataka floor test scheduled for Saturday.
BJP leader Yeddyurappa, who was sworn-in as the Karnataka chief minister on Thursday, has to prove majority on Saturday, as ruled by the Supreme Court.

After being appointed as the pro tem Speaker, Bopaiah was administered the oath of office by the Governor at Raj Bhavan in Bengaluru.
Bopaiah, who had earlier served as the Speaker of the House from 2009-2013, will conduct the floor test and holds the authority to disqualify MLAs.

Meanwhile, the Karnataka Congress released an audio clip, alleging that G Janardhana Reddy was trying to lure Congress MLA from Raichur Rural to join the BJP. The Congress has also leveled allegations of bribery and horse-trading against the BJP.
Congress has alleged that Reddy in the audio clip claimed that he has BJP president Amit Shah’s support to indulge in ‘horse trading’.
