Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday urged Pakistan to stop shelling the border areas of Jammu and reciprocate to India’s lead in starting peace initiatives.
CM Mehbooba comments come after four civilians and a BSF jawan were killed in shelling by Pakistan Rangers on Friday.
In a series of tweets, Mufti said, “Continued firing on the border in Jammu is cause of pain & worry. Sad that while our country took the lead in starting peace initiatives with cessation of operations during Ramzan, Pakistan has shown no respect whatsoever for this holy month”.

“Pakistan will have to reciprocate & contribute to efforts for lasting peace. Everyone must realise that violence is a zerosum game. My deepest condolences to families of victims,” she added in another tweet.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee has strongly condemned Pakistan for the unprovoked ceasefire violation and resorting to heavy shelling in civilian areas.
Leaders Sham Lal and Ravinder Sharma said “This shows the hollowness of Pakistan and their faith in maintaining peace and cordiality with India, for which the Government of India should take effective measures to deal with the hostile neighbor”.
