Chargesheet against 8 LeT men for Amarnath attack

The J&K Police on Monday filed charge-sheet against eight Lashkar-e-Tayiba (LeT) terrorists, including three of Pakistan nationality, involved in last year’s terror attack in which eight Amarnath pilgrims travelling in a bus were killed and several injured. One of the accused is a juvenile.

The 1,500 page charge-sheet has accused the Pakistan based LeT of having engineered the attack on the bus carrying pilgrims. Eleven LeT operatives have been named in the charge-sheet, but three of them, who were Pakistan nationals, were killed in different encounters. The main accused listed in the charge-sheet, Abu Ismail (a Pakistani national) was killed in an encounter at Arigam, Nowgam, Srinagar, on 14 September 2017. Yawar Bashir @ Ayaan, Maaviya and Furqaan (both Pakistani nationals) were killed in an encounter at Qazigund in South Kashmir last month on 20 December 2017.

A SIT formed to investigate the terror attack filed a comprehensive charge-sheet against 8 accused persons before the Sessions Court at Anantnag and Chief Judicial Magistrate (Juvenile Court), Anantnag.
During the course of investigation it was established that Pakistan-based LeT terrorists were involved in the terror attack. On the basis of evidence collected during the course of investigation, the complicity of 11 people was established, out of which four 4 persons including one juvenile were arrested. Accused Khalid Muzafar Dar of Rehpora Khudwani, Tanveer Ahmad Dar of Rehpora Khudwani and Sarjeel Ahmad Shiekh of Khudwani are absconding in the case.
