Bhojpuri singer takes U-turn on contesting LS polls from Asansol

Bhojpuri singer Pawan Singh, who was fielded by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from West Bengal’s Asansol on Wednesday took a U-turn and said that he will contest the elections “to fulfill the promises made to the people and his mother”.

Singh had earlier refused to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Asansol after BJP named him as its candidate in the party’s first list released earlier this month.

“I express my heartfelt gratitude to the top leadership of Bharatiya Janata Party. The party trusted me and declared me as the candidate from West Bengal’s Asansol but due to some reason, I will not be able to contest the elections from Asansol…,” he had said in a post on ‘X’.

Renowned for his superhit ‘Lollipop Lagelu’ album, the Bhojpuri singer will face veteran Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha, who is TMC’s candidate from Asansol.

When BJP announced Singh as its Asansol candidate, the TMC had slammed the saffron party over its choice of candidates and alleged his songs depicted women in vulgar way.
