Azam Khan and son moved to separate prisons

Samajwadi Party’s Azam Khan and son sentenced to prison, transferred to separate jails in Uttar Pradesh after fake birth certificate case verdict.

Azam Khan and son moved to separate prisons

Prominent Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan and his son, Abdullah Azam, found themselves in separate jails on a recent Sunday. Azam Khan was transferred to the Sitapur district jail, while his son was relocated to the Hardoi district jail. Director General of Prisons, SN Sabat, shared that both father and son were moved with ample security measures. Their journey began at around 4:40 am from Rampur jail and concluded at their respective destinations by approximately 9 am.

This relocation comes on the heels of a court verdict in Rampur that found Azam Khan, his wife Tazeen Fatima, and their son guilty in a 2019 case involving fake birth certificates. The court’s ruling resulted in a seven-year prison sentence for each of them. Following the judgment, they had been held in the Rampur district jail.

Upon leaving Rampur jail, Azam Khan conveyed his concerns to reporters. He expressed apprehension, stating that “anything” could happen to him and his son, including potential encounters that could jeopardize their safety.

Khan had previously spent nearly two years in Sitapur jail, where he was detained in connection with multiple cases. His release occurred in May 2022, following bail granted by the Supreme Court.

The legal entanglement that led to their convictions began on January 3, 2019, when BJP MLA Akash Saxena filed an FIR at the Ganj police station in Rampur. The complaint alleged that Azam Khan and his wife, Tazeen Fatima, aided their son in acquiring two fraudulent date-of-birth certificates. These counterfeit documents were reportedly obtained from Lucknow and Rampur.

This development underscores the legal challenges and ongoing cases that Azam Khan and his family have faced. Their convictions in the fake birth certificate case have now led to their separate placements in different district jails. As their legal journey continues, it remains to be seen how these developments will impact their future and the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh.
