Big news for fans of Marathi cinema. Filmmaker Nagraj Manjule has unveiled the teaser for his upcoming film ‘Khashaba’, along with a confirmed worldwide release date.

‘Khashaba’ is a Marathi language biographical sports drama. It tells the real life story of Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav, the legendary Indian Olympic wrestler.

The story follows Jadhav’s journey from Maharashtra’s traditional akharas, the mud pits where wrestlers train, all the way to winning a bronze medal at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. That achievement made him independent India’s first individual Olympic medalist.

Manjule’s return to Marathi cinema

This project marks something special for Manjule himself. He is returning to Marathi language filmmaking after a long gap. His last major work in the language was ‘Sairat’, the massive 2016 hit, and before that, the National Film Award winning Fandry.

In between, Manjule stepped into Hindi cinema with his 2022 feature ‘Jhund’, which starred Amitabh Bachchan. He also worked on the Prime Video series ‘Matka King’, led by Vijay Varma, which premiered earlier this year.

Mark your calendars. ‘Khashaba’ opens in theatres worldwide on January 1, 2027.
