Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, son of veteran actor Dharmendra, on Tuesday, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Sunny Deol, who met BJP President Amit Shah last week, joined the BJP in the presence of Union Ministers Piyush Goyal and Nirmala Sitharaman.

Speaking on his political debut, Deol said just like his father Dharmendra worked with late former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he will work with and support Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has inspired him to take the political plunge.

Speculations are rife that Sunny Deol may get a ticket from Gurdaspur Lok Sabha constituency in Punjab.

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, BJP had won this seat after fielding actor Vinod Khanna, who died in 2017.

Sunny Deol, 62, is best known for his action hero roles in films like “Ghayal”, “Gadar: Ek Prem Katha”, “Damini” and “Border”.

He is the third Deol to join politics and the BJP after Dharmendra and his wife Hema Malini.

Punjab will vote in a single phase, on May 19, the last day of the seven-phased national election.
