15 dead, several injured in train accident in Bangladesh

Remains of the pre-historic era and medieval period were reportedly found in the foothills villages of Devangiri hills here recently. Archaeologist Dr Atul Pradhan is said to have found a sculptor of Varahi, the feminine form of Bhairav.
Pradhan who is conducting a survey and an exploration in the Kuldhia area said the tools and remains found in the patches suggest that the human civilization is existing in the region since thousands of years.
Further dating has to be done, he added. “Till now the tools, remains and sculptors which were found during exploration indicate ancient civilization here in Balasore.

Hundreds of such remains are found in the foothills of Devangiri hill in between Kuldhia and Kamarapala. Recently, an eroded sculptor found indicates it belongs to 13-14 century, which is the period of Banga dynasty,” said Pradhan.
“The sculptor is about two feet high. Since it is eroded due to aging process it is not definitely identified. Yet appears to be a Varahi sculptor,” he said.
Pradhan currently posted as assistant professor and head of departmentof History, Oupada College, Balasore, earlier served in the capacity of assistant director of archaeology with ASI.
“The scientific exploration also revealed large number of sculptures, fort remains and temple remains. The sculptures of Varahi, Mahisamardini, Shivling are scattered near Kuldhia sancutary. It calls for more research,” said Pradhan.
The district collector, Ramesh Rout said, “Those antiques found in the area would be conserved in the museum at Nilgiri.” “ASI will be apprised about the findings,” he further added.
