Poll fight: SI sustains bullet injury in Usthi

A sub-inspector was injured in a firing by miscreants at Usthi in South 24 Parganas on Monday. It was learnt that the Trinamul workers reportedly prevented the Opposition candidates from filing nomination at Magrahat-I BDO office within Usthi police limits area this day.

The miscreants opened fire when the police were trying to maintain peace and eventually a sub-inspector of Usthi police station, Raffiquzzaman, sustained a bullet injury on his left hand.

The injured police officer was admitted to Diamond Harbour district hospital. In an other incident, police had been assaulted in front of Baruipur SDO office this morning reportedly by some TMC backed goons during the nomination process.

The BJP and one faction of TMC candidates went to file their nomination papers on Monday. Another faction of TMC prevented them from filing their nominations. A woman candidate was allegedly beaten up by a group of Trinamul workers there.

A police officer came forward to take step against the Trinamul workers who prevented the candidates of the other faction of the ruling party. He was allegedly assaulted by the TMC party workers. A large number of police force then rushed to the spot and resorted to lathi charge.

The Congress leaders, Tapas Pahari, who is the Kulpi block Congress president, and Ananta Halder, the Mathurapur-I block Congress president, was assaulted by the Trinamul Congress supporters in Diamond Harbour SDO office when the two leaders were entering into the administrative building of SDO office along with their candidates to file nomination.

The alleged Trinamul workers attacked a lawyer namely Tapan Biswas, a BJP worker of Shibanipur, inside the Diamond Harbour criminal court’s bar library.

In a separate incident, a woman namely Runu Mondol, resident of Ghunimeghi at Bhangor, was badly beaten up last night in a shop there by a faction of Trinamul. It was learnt that Runu Debi was assaulted by the Trinamul men believing that she was Astami Mondol who is a gram panchayat candidate of TMC’s Kaizer Ahmed group.

Sources said some miscreants of the other faction backed by Rezzak Molla group came to attack Astami debi on a motorcycle for being a candidate when Astami debi was also in the shop and the miscreants actually made a mistake. Injured Runu debi was admitted to Nalmuri hospital.
