Mamata Banerjee wishes on International Women’s Day

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday extended her greeting on International Women’s Day.

In a tweet, Mamata Banerjee said, ”We are proud of our women. They are the backbone of the world. We congratulate all the women of our country and all the women in the world. #IWD2018.”

Celebrated on March 8 every year, Women’s Day focuses on the general celebration of respect, appreciation and love towards women to a celebration for women’s economic, political, and social achievements.

While the idea of International Women’s Day first emerged from the activities of the labour movements early 20th century in North America and across Europe, the Charter of the United Nations, signed in 1945, is said to be the first international agreement to affirm the principle of equality between women and men.
