To make people aware of laws and familiar with rules, regulations and their rights, the South Dinajpur District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) on Wednesday arranged for a one-day legal service fair at Hili. Official sources at the DLSA said that the fair aimed to take legal services to the doorsteps of the common people.

The stalls set in the fair aided people in solving their pending cases. Hili was selected for the fair after the State Legal Service Authority received instructions from the National Legal Services Authority to arrange the fair in the district level, it is learnt. A total of 20 stalls were set up in the fair to receive complaints from people and to fight against departmental misconduct.

The objections and complaints will be looked into by the legal service authority. More than 200 objections were filed in the fair against different departments, official sources said. Sushil Barman, a resident of Chingishpur, who lodged a complaint against the Land Registration Department, said, “I failed to solve my land dispute.

I have visited the office a number of times but could not solve the matter. The stenographer rather asked for money. I have lodged a complaint through the legal aid service on Wednesday and I hope they will solve my problem soon.” “People are not informed of their rights and scopes in different governmental projects.

These legal aid stalls we will inform them of the same and will help them receive the benefits,” said the Secretary of DLSA South Dinajpur, Sowmendra Nath Roy.
