Law and order precarious: SAD

Romania

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Friday alleged that the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab has forced businessmen to leave the state. In a statement, SAD spokesperson Parambans Singh Romana said the recent migration of a Jaitu family in Faridkot had revealed the precarious situation.

He said the entire family of rice mill owner Ravinder Kochhar, who was gunned down by gangsters in July 2017, had migrated abroad after selling their property. “The family left their home and hearth after realising that they were also not secure as the state police failed to apprehend the gangsters.

“Immediately after coming to power the Congress party gave a free rein to its workers to persecute Akalis, many of whom were injured grievously and even murdered. This in turn bolstered gangsters and resulted in an increase in extortion, dacoities and inter-gang warfare. The situation was further exacerbated by the visit of Uttar Pradesh gangster Raja Bhaiya to Faridkot. The gangster was hosted by local Congress legislator Kushaldeep Dhillon, who even boasted about the same on his Facebook page,” alleged the Akali leader.

Romana said only last week there were two robberies in Jaitu, including an armed robbery. He demanded immediate action against the two gangsters who had killed Kochhar besides strict action against all politicians who were encouraging gang culture in Punjab.

Iin July, a rice mill owner was shot dead in broad daylight in Jaitu. Accused Harsimrandeep Singh Simma has confessed to his crime in a Facebook post, but refuted the police theory that the victim was killed after he refused to pay extortion money. In his Facebook post, Simma claimed that Ravinder Kochhar was shot dead as he was a police “tout” and informed the cops about the activities of members of his gang.
