As a mark of respect for the Indian Army and to inform people of the 2016 ‘Surgical Strike,’ the Parvatiya Bihari Yuva Mancha puja committee in Kurseong has themed this year’s Saraswati Puja on the Indian Army’s operation against Pakistan. According to Chandan Prasad, a member of the committee, this is the 23rd Puja they have been organizing under the banner of the Manch.

“We have been organizing the puja with different themes, issues, and subjects every year in the town,” Mr Prasad said. “The earlier versions of the Puja were on the ‘selfie’ theme that had become a hit last year. Not only this, to make people aware and encourage them on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Make in India’ vision, we organized a puja with the ‘Make in India’ theme too,” he added.

He added that the Army has been performing its duties along different borders without complaining the hardships they have to face just for the security of the country and its people. “As such, this year’s Puja was to honor their great sacrifice as well as to encourage the youths to join the Indian Army and to let people knowmore about the 29 September, 2016, Surgical Strike, where the Army crossed the border and destroyed enemy base camps in enemy territory in Pakistan,” Mr Prasad said.

To depict the strike against Pakistan, several models of the India-Pakistan border with the Indian Army base and its different strategies have been built in the puja pandal. Not only this, a projector keeps displaying clips of the surgical strike that the organizers have gathered from different media. “We want to thank the local people of Kurseong as this time too, they have appreciated our efforts,” Mr Prasad said.
