The lynching of a Muslim man in Bajhera village of Pilakhua in Hapur district took a new twist on Thursday after a photo of the incident went viral on social media in which three cops can be seen escorting the mob dragging the victim.

The incident was reported on Monday in which Kasim (45) was beaten to death and Samadeen (70) was injured by a mob. Police have arrested two people in this case.
Fresh controversy erupted on Thursday after the photo showed people dragging injured Kasim in the presence of three cops.
Denying the allegations, Hapur SP Sankalp Sharma said that preliminary investigations suggested that cops who rushed to the spot had called an ambulance to take Kasim and Samadeen to a hospital.
“The said photo is of the time when villagers were taking Kasim up to the ambulance on the direction of the cops,” he said. He, however, didn’t deny the possibility of a few anti-social elements misbehaving with the victims when he was being shifted to the ambulance.
“I have spoken to the cops seen in the picture,” the SP said, adding investigations would be done verify their statements. Riding a motorcycle, Kasim had a minor accident with a villager, after which a mob attacked him. A farmer, Samadeen, who was working in a nearby field was also injured in this attack. His condition is stated to be stable.
There were reports that Kasim was attacked by residents of Bajhera village over rumours of cow-slaughter attempt. Bajhera is dominated by Thakur community while Kasim was from Pilakhua.  The police, however, outrightly trashed this theory.
A case was registered against over two dozen residents of village Bajhera and police have arrested two people after identifying them on the basis of statements, videos and photos. “The process of identifying the perpetrators of crime would go on and they would be sent to the jail soon,” said Sharma.
