Eight more fishers held in prohibited Gahirmatha marine sanctuary

The arrested marine fishermen were natives of the Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts. The trawl and fishing implements used by them for sea voyage in prohibited marine sanctuary areas were seized. Later, they were remanded to judicial custody under relevant sections of the wildlife protection act, 1972, said officials.

Two interstate fraudsters held for siphoning Rs 2.45 crore

The duo was arrested on the basis of a complaint filed by the Executive Officer, Barbil Municipality. The complaint had alleged that there was fraudulent and unauthorised transfer of Rs.2,45,60,800 from their official account maintained with Bank of Baroda, Barbil by forging the cheques and the signature of the complainant.

2.45 lakh turtles invade Gahirmatha beach for mass nesting

The endangered Olive Ridley female turtles have begun arriving at the Gahirmatha beach, world’s largest known rookery of these species, to lay eggs with more than 2.45 lakh marine animals’ en-masse arrival for the unique natural heritage in one of the largest single-day arrival of the turtles at the tranquil nesting beach.
