The business environment in West Bengal across small, medium and large industries was satisfactory and many of them were looking for expansion in the state, according to CII-PwC survey.

A number of companies felt that cost competitiveness exists in terms of raw material, which is a major plus, it said.

The business environment had also significantly improved with respect to strikes and other forms of work disruptions, as per the survey.

The joint survey, prepared with feedback from businesses in and outside of Bengal, advocated taking “further bold steps in pushing reforms and simplifying the clearance processes”.

The state would be able to sustain its incremental business growth, attract more investments and emerge as one of the major investment destinations of the country, it said.

Many businesses felt that there was scope for improvement in the registration, incubation systems and legal processes, while some were of the opinion that a greater emphasis needs to be laid on the health and education sector.

Some of the major concerns include labour and trade union issues, lack of skilled manpower and challenges in acquisition of land, the survey said.
