In a horrific incident being reported from the Jiaganj area of West Bengal’s Murshidabad district, three members of a family were found killed on Tuesday. The dead include a 35-year-old school teacher, his pregnant wife, and their eight-year-old son who were hacked to death in their home, say the police.

The BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) have claimed that the school teacher Bandhu Prakash Pal had recently joined the RSS.

The bodies of Bandhu, his wife Beauty (30), and son Arya were found in different parts of their home with blood splattered all over. The police say that the incident occurred around noon on Tuesday.

The police further confirmed that the three bodies were found in a pool of blood but they couldn’t say anything concrete about the RSS links of Bandhu Pal. RSS State Secretary Jishnu Basu said Bandhu had regularly been attending its weekly programme “Milan” for the last few months. He also criticised the police for their failure to arrest the culprits even 48 hours after the bodies were found.

“It was for the police to decide. The RSS doesn’t make comment unless it’s sure of the facts,” said Basu when asked if the murder was politically motivated.

The incident came to light after neighbours did not see the family at the Vijayadashami celebrations. Worried, some of them went to their home but found the door bolted from inside and called the police.
