The central paramilitary forces have started patrolling and naka-checking at the Bengal-Jharkhand border in Kulti, near Asansol from today.

The Delhi-Kolkata national highway-19 is one of the busiest highways in the country and is commonly known as the gateway of the east. The Duburdih check-post in four-point crossing in Kulti is one of the key points and the central paramilitary forces are checking every vehicle passing on both sides of the NH-19.

The election of Asansol Lok Sabha seat will held on 13 May and the central paramilitary forces have been asked to keep vigil at Salanpur, Kalyaneswari, Duburdih, Debipur, Katbita areas situated in the Bengal-Jharkhand border in West Burdwan district of this state.

According to commissioner of police, Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate (ADPC) Sunil Kumar Choudhury, on the directives of the election commission to restore the confidence amongst the voters the route marching and naka-checking operations have started at the inter-state border.

The Jharkhand and Bengal Police have already held a high-level meeting at Kulti a few days ago, where top cops of bordering districts in Jharkhand and Asansol Durgapur Police Commissionerate bordering police stations took part.

It has been decided that joint naka-checking will start on both sides of the long and porous border.

Paramilitary forces have already arrived in Asansol Lok Sabha constituency and in the next few weeks more forces will arrive, sources said.

Already Rs 50 lakh of alleged unaccounted money has been seized from a person at Asansol railway station by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers and jawans during checking.

“The border will be sealed from both sides during the day of the Lok Sabha election in Asansol,” added S Ponnambalam, district magistrate of West Burdwan. He added that all steps and directives of Election Commission of India will be strictly followed in West Burdwan district. An all- party meeting has also been called today for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Asansol.
