TMC 2.0 is born, but will it find a place in the Sun?
It's official now, the Trinamul Congress (TMC) party has split, with the majority of 59 out of 80 MLAs opting out of the party founded and led by Mamata Banerjee.
Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has been appointed as the new Chief Whip of All India Trinamul Congress parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha.

Dr Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar has been appointed as the new Chief Whip of All India Trinamul Congress parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha.
She replaced Kalyan Banerjee, who resigned from the post of Chief Whip yesterday. Mamata Banerjee, Trinamul Congress chairperson accepted the resignation of Mr Banerjee and after she discussed the matter with the senior Parliamentarians Dr Ghosh Dastidar was appointed today.

An official announcement to this effect was made by the Trinamul Congress on Tuesday afternoon through a statement issued by the party.

“Shri Kalyan Banerjee submitted his resignation yesterday to the chairperson from the post of Chief Whip of the @AITCofficial Parliamentary Party in the Lok Sabha. The Chairperson has accepted his resignation and thanked him for his contributions in that role.
“In consultation with senior parliamentarians, the Chairperson has nominated Dr. Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar as the new Chief Whip of the @AITCofficial in the Lok Sabha and Smt. Satabdi Roy as the new Deputy Leader of the AITC in the Lok Sabha with immediate effect. We extend our best wishes to both of them in their new roles and in their continued efforts to uphold Bengal’s pride, rights and honour,” the statement read.
Dr Ghosh Dastidar, a four-time MP, has been winning from Barasat Lok Sabha seat from 2009. She won the Lok Sabha election in 2009, 2014, 2019, 2024.
An effective MP, Dr Ghosh Dastidar has raised important issues in Lok Sabha. She was a member of Trinamul Congress delegation that was sent to Assam when people were sent to the detention camps and to talk to the agitating farmers in Punjab. She was also a member of the Trinamul Congress team that was sent to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh after a girl was raped and murdered.
Miss Banerjee appointed Satabdi Roy as the deputy leader of Trinamul Congress in the Lok Sabha. Mrs Roy, an actor-turned-politician is also a four time MP from Birbhum Parliamentary seat.
Mrs Roy was the first actor to be given a ticket to contest in the Lok Sabha election in 2009. Subsequently, she won in 2014, 2019 and 2024.
