The rebel faction of the Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Leader of the Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee, has taken another major organisational step by announcing a new set of district committees across West Bengal. The decision came on Saturday, just one day after the group reshuffled its state committee, showing that the faction is moving quickly to strengthen its presence at every level of the party.

Along with the district committees, the rebel camp also unveiled a panel of official spokespersons who will represent the group’s views before the public and the media.

Anubrata Mondal returns to lead Birbhum

One of the biggest talking points in the new list is the appointment of senior Trinamool leader Anubrata Mondal. He had earlier served as the Birbhum district president in Mamata Banerjee’s original Trinamool Congress for many years.

According to information available, the Ritabrata Banerjee camp has now handed him the responsibility of Birbhum district, making his return to a leadership role one of the most significant decisions announced on Saturday.

Several senior leaders attend key meeting

The organisational meeting held on Saturday saw the presence of several experienced leaders and fresh faces.

Former Panihati MLA and influential leader Nirmal Ghosh attended the meeting. Other leaders present included Ranjan Sarkar, Kohinoor Majumdar, Abdul Khalek Mollah and Jotsna Mandi.

Former Rajya Sabha MP Santanu Sen, Trinamool’s candidate from the Ashoknagar constituency, and councillor Sushanta Ghosh also participated in the meeting.

The gathering was further attended by former Asansol Mayor Bidhan Upadhyay and Deputy Mayor Wasimul Haque, reflecting support from leaders with administrative and political experience.

District responsibilities distributed across Bengal

Ritabrata Banerjee also released a detailed list of district in-charges as part of the organisation’s restructuring.

Bagnan MLA Arunabha (Raja) Sen has been appointed in charge of Rural Howrah, while Shrishtidhar Ghosh will oversee Howrah Sadar.

Pradeep Sarkar has been assigned West Midnapore, Rathin Banerjee will lead Bankura, and Ujjwal Kumar has been given responsibility for Purulia.

Rabindranath Chatterjee has been named in charge of East Burdwan, while Narendranath Chatterjee will oversee West Burdwan.

For Kolkata, Sandipan Saha has been assigned North Kolkata, while Debashis Kumar will supervise South Kolkata. Rabindranath Ghosh has been made responsible for Cooch Behar.

However, the faction has not yet announced district heads for some important areas, including East Midnapore and North 24 Parganas. Those positions are expected to be filled later.
