India must focus on green growth, robust infrastructure, transparent governance, and a circular economy for long-term sustainable development, said Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav during a meeting in Delhi on Thursday.
The minister’s remarks were made during the inaugural session of a national conference on ‘Electric Mobility: Building India an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat.’ The event was organised by Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) to create a roadmap for fast-tracking India’s shift to electric mobility.

India’s shift to electric transport is not merely about replacing one technology with another; it is about building a “sustainable industrial ecosystem” that boosts “manufacturing and green jobs,” the minister noted.”
“India’s future lies in moving from a linear ‘take-make-dispose’ model towards a circular economy based on reuse, recycling and sustainable resource management,” Yadav said.
To accelerate EV adoption and position, experts noted that India as a global electric mobility hub, India needs continued policy, stronger charging infrastructure, localised manufacturing, and resilient battery supply chains, among others, according to an official document from the ministry.
“As we accelerate this transition, our focus must remain on green growth, resilient infrastructure, transparent governance and a circular economy that ensures long-term environmental sustainability”, Yadav added.
He stated that electric mobility must be supported by robust charging infrastructure, localisation of advanced manufacturing, secure critical mineral supply chains, battery recycling and resource efficiency.
Yadav also drew attention to measures taken by the government to ensure responsible development. He stated that the government has undertaken a series of reforms to simplify environmental clearances, digitise approval systems through the PARIVESH portal, rationalise compliance requirements and promote ease of doing business without compromising environmental safeguards.
