Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh became India’s highest wicket-taker in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup history on Thursday. It took place during a crucial Super Eight clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai when he took 3/24 wickets in four overs, helping India stay alive in the tournament.
This performance led Arshdeep to move past Jasprit Bumrah’s tally of 33 wickets, taking his count to 35 in just 19 T20 World Cup matches since his debut in 2022.

A record built on consistency
Beyond World Cups, Arshdeep crossed another landmark by completing 150 international wickets for India across formats. He currently leads India’s T20I bowling charts with 126 wickets, adding to his steady progress in ODIs as well.
His overall T20 World Cup numbers now stand at an impressive average of 14.25 with an economy rate of 7.33. Finishing with 17 wickets in eight matches, he was also joint-highest wicket-taker in the 2024 edition.
India stay alive in Super Eight race
Batting first, India posted their highest total of the tournament, powered by aggressive knocks from Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma. Zimbabwe responded with a spirited chase, led by Brian Bennett’s unbeaten 97 and support from skipper Sikandar Raza, but fell short at 184 for six.
Arshdeep’s timely breakthroughs proved decisive in keeping Zimbabwe under check. With one win and one loss so far in the Super Eight stage, India now face West Indies in a virtual knockout on March 1 for a place in the semifinals.
For Arshdeep Singh, this record night added another chapter to a journey built quietly, ball by ball, under the biggest lights of world cricket.
