Star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday said that the team was a bit “surprised” by the on-field umpire’s call that led to Virat Kohli’s controversial departure during the visiting team’s first innings in the second Test match of the four-match Test series between India and Australia. The match is being played at the brand new Perth stadium.

Bumrah, however, insisted that the Indian side has moved on from Kohli’s dismissals and is focusing on restricting Australia to a low score in the second innings.

On Sunday, Kohli was dismissed on a delivery by Pat Cummins that saw Peter Handscomb take a brilliant catch at second slip. The on-field umpires deferred the decision to the third umpire with a soft signal of out. In the TV replays, the third umpire did not find any sufficient proof to overturn the decision of on-field umpire and Kohli was given out.

“We were a little surprised by the on-field call but now that it’s been done means it’s been done. We will move forward with the game. That’s about it,” said Jasprit Bumrah was quoted as saying when asked about the controversial decision.

Before getting dismissed at 123, Virat Kohli scored his 25th Test hundred to help India score 283 runs in their first innings. Speaking about Kohli’s masterclass knock, Bumrah said, “Obviously, we were in a bit of bother at the start (of the day), and then the way he played, the way he carried his whole innings was infectious. He has been doing all the time and he is an inspiring leader. He leads from the front. So, it’s a good thing for the team and hopefully, he will keep doing it in future as well.”
