Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh on Wednesday appointed Chandra Kanta Das and Gangmumei Kamei as the new members of the North Eastern Council (NEC). 

Das is a retired 1975 batch IAS officer and Gangmumei Kamei is a distinguished academician and author. Both the member are appointed for a period of three years.

They will function as full time non-official members from the NEC headquarters at Shillong. Earlier the positions were held by Ashoke K. Dutta and MP Bezbaruah.

Speaking on the vacant position in NEC, Singh said, “Very soon a senior IAS officer from the government will be appointed as the new NEC secretary”.

Earlier, Ameising Luikham served as the secretary. He is now posted as the union secretary in the department of public enterprises.

Singh appointed Chandra Kanta Das, a senior retired IAS officer (’75 batch), and Prof Gangmumei Kamei, a distinguished academician and author as the new members of the council for a period of three years.

They will function as full time non-official members from the NEC headquarters at Shillong. Earlier the positions were hold by Ashoke K. Dutta and M.P. Bezbaruah.

Speaking on the vacant position in NEC, “very soon a senior IAS officer from the government of India will be appointed as the new secretary of the NEC” Dr. Singh assured. Earlier Ameising Luikham was serving as the secretary, he had been posted as the Union Secretary in the department of Public Enterprises.
