Rahul will announce candidacy from Amethi after Wayanad polls: Himanta
Sarma suggested that this move aligns with Prime Minister Modi's previous assessment of the Congress party's strategy.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s elevation as party chief might get delayed as party president Sonia Gandhi’s illness has pushed back the scheduled meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC).
Sonia Gandhi was on Friday admitted to the city’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) after she complained of stomach upset. She was taken ill while in Shimla and was brought to Delhi for treatment.
Party sources said that there was time till December 31 to complete the entire organisational election process and take a decision on the matter. So, there was “no rush” to elevate Rahul.

Some reports have also said that Rahul’s appointment as the party chief may not take place before the Gujarat elections to focus completely on the assembly polls.
The Congress had earlier set October 25 deadline for electing new party president.
The CWC is the Congress’ highest decision-making body. The party’s constitution invests the committee with the power to choose its president. The CWC has 10 elected members and 10 nominated members, in addition to special invitees.
