Pointing out that no senior Congress leader is campaigning in poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the party has conceded defeat in the hill state.

Addressing a public rally in Kangra, Modi said the Congress had left Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to his fate.

“Senior Congress leaders are not campaigning in Himachal, they have conceded defeat and left CM Virbhadra Singh to his fate,” Modi said.

“I haven’t come here to ask you to make BJP win. I have come here to ask you to give it a three-fourths majority,” he added.

Modi said Congress’ downfall was due to its “sins”.

“On one hand we are fighting corruption whereas Congress is preparing to mark 8th November as black money day. Congress is getting the fruits of its sins. If people are angry today, it is due to its own deeds,” he said.

The hill state will go to polls for 68 assembly seats on November 9 and with just a few days left, both the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have upped the ante against each other, desperate to woo the voters.

The results will be declared on December 18, the day the votes cast will be counted along with those in Gujarat.

In Himachal Pradesh, Congress won 36 of the 68 seats in 2012 with a vote share of 42.81 per cent, while the BJP bagged 26 seats with a 38.47 per cent vote share.
