Kolkata, 25 October
A dance programme organised by some Trinamul Congress Chatra Parishad (TMCP) leaders in a Industrial Training Institute (ITI) at Gariahat has sparked a fresh controversy.
The programme was reportedly organised in September to welcome the new ITI students.
Students attending the programme were seen capturing the dance on their mobile phones.
The video footage of the programme shows two girls dancing in a vulgar manner on a makeshift dais. They were seen dancing in front of a poster bearing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee&’s photograph.
Sources said the video footage was leaked ahead of the students’ election in the institute. A faction of the party leaked the footage to tarnish the image of the TMCP leaders, who now hold key positions in the institute.
Mr Tamaghna Ghosh, a senior TMCP leader, said they also saw the footage in a news channel and have asked South Kolkata TMCP committee to file a report after probing the matter.
This is not the first time the TMCP has organised such programme.
Earlier, a similar programme was organised at an ITI at Rangamati in West Midnapore.
The first such incident after the change of power in
the state took place at Bhangar in South 24 -Parganas where a party leader was spotted throwing money while girls danced during the party&’s foundation day programme.
